Our History

In 1926, the Joseph Rossi Funeral Home was founded one year after the marriage of my parents Josephine Merola and Joseph F. Rossi Sr. They were married at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church on Erie St in Niles across from the original location of the funeral home.  At the time the funeral home consisted of only an embalming and casket room, as visitations were held at the deceased's residence. The business relocated to our current location on Robbins Ave. in 1932.  Three years later, an addition was added to the building to allow for visitation at the facility.

In 1948, my sister Marie became a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer as she was the only female to graduate in her class. Following the sudden death of my father from a heart attack in 1953 , our business continued with my mother, sister, and her husband George.  A major addition to our building was completed in 1966, as we added a large visitation room, new restrooms, offices and secondary visitation room. In 1969, I became a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer and today my son's Joseph F. Rossi III and Thomas J. Rossi are associated since becoming licensed in 2000.
