Anthony D’Urso, 87, of Niles, died at 3:44AM Saturday September 3, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Eastland in Warren.
He was born October 17, 1928 in Bagnoli Irpino, Italy the son of Anthony and Albina Buccino D’Urso and came to the United States in 1952.
In 1958, Anthony and his cousin Vincent Chieffo purchased the Tricomi Bakery in Niles and changed it’s name to Chieffo and D’urso Bakery. In 1982 he acquired it and changed its name to D’Urso Bakery which is still being operated by his children today. Anthony would always be seen regularly at the bakery chatting with customers and friends up until the last couple of months.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, The Bagnoli Irpino Club, enjoyed gardening, wine and cheese making, traveling to Italy every year, and served in The Italian Army.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Maria Nicastro D’Urso whom he married January 4, 1950, three sons Anthony D’Urso and his wife Bridgette of Niles, Dominic A. D’Urso and his wife Antoinette “Toni” of Niles, and Ralph D’Urso of Niles, three daughters, Albina Sortini and her husband Jerry of Niles, Maria McClimans and her husband Scott of Niles, and Angela R. D’Urso of Niles, a brother Dominic D’Urso and his wife Elizabeth of Niles, four sisters, Carmella DeSimone and her husband Aurelio of Bagnoli Irpino, Italy, Natalina Cione and her husband Joseph of Rome, Italy, Dora D’Urso, of Bagnoli Irpino, Italy, and Livia DiMaio of Calitri, Italy, ten grandchildren, Carmella, Isabella, Anna Marie, Anthony, Cathryn, Maria, Anthony, Joanne, Maria Louise, and Allen, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Crocamo and Maria Meloro.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 7PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles where The Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 6:30PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Wednesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles preceded by a 9:30AM prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
