Chief Charles L. Semple Jr, 79, of Niles died 5:54am Monday February 20th at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
He was born on August 1, 1937 in Warren the son of Charles and Mary Wilson Semple Sr.
Chuck was a 1955 Niles McKinley High School graduate and later attended Youngstown State University.
He worked various jobs within the city of Niles but found his calling at the fire department where he became Chief in 1983. Chuck retired in 2006 after 39 years at the department keeping our community safe.
Chuck was a member of Niles First Presbyterian Church,softball coach for local Youth and travel teams and also the assistant JV softball coach at Niles McKinley High School.
Chief and his family were World Travelers, and also toured all 50 states.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Patricia Patrone Semple who he married on November 4,1995, daughters Julie Wiencek and her husband Mike of Cincinnati and Jennifer Gill and her husband Brad of Columbus, step-children Christine Dorma and her husband Joseph of Cortland and James Trunick and his wife Kathy of Niles, a brother Tom Semple and his wife Janice of Niles, nine grandchildren Michael, Nikki, Matthew, Grace, Mary, Sydney, Alexa, Nicholas, James and several nieces and nephews.
He proceeded in death by his parents,an infant son Eric and a sister Dorothy Grosbeck.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Joseph Rossi & Sons Funeral Home in Niles and also one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday at the Niles First Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
