Evelyn (Tisone) Carbone, of Niles, died on Monday afternoon, January 25, 2016, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital following a difficult illness.

Born to Onorata and Verino Tisone, September 22, 1925 in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the youngest of five children.  A 1942 graduate of South High School in Youngstown, she completed Comptometer School and worked for several years in the business department at Strouss Hirshberg.  Her parents were both born in Italy and she was very proud of her heritage.

Evelyn married Lewis F. Carbone in 1953.  They made their home in Niles where they raise their three sons.  Together, they worked to establish and operate Lou Carbone Plumbing for over 50 years.

An active member of Mt. Carmel Church for 63 years, Evelyn was a lector, Eucharistic Minister and member of the Liturgy Committee. She served on numerous committees and in other leadership roles over the years. She was a member of the Mother’s Club, the Infant of Prague Society, and a great friend to the Precious Blood Priests and Sisters who served Mt. Carmel Parish.  When her boys were young, she volunteered in the cafeteria and library at Mt. Carmel School. She was a Band Booster and volunteer at John F. Kennedy High School. More importantly, Evelyn witnessed her faith through her kindness, generosity and commitment to the Gospel message every day of her life.

Evelyn was very civic minded.  She volunteered in many service and leadership roles.  She was a board member and board president of Catholic Social Services.  She worked with the American Cancer Society in several capacities including Tag Day Coordinator for over 15 years and Transportation Coordinator for Cancer patients. She was a member of the American Red Cross Board of Directors, The Niles Community Services, and a driver for Trumbull County Mobile Meals for over 50 years.  She served on the Citizens’ Advisory Committee for Unban Renewal in the early 1970s, the White House Conference on Families in the 1980’s, The Niles Tornado Recovery Coalition in 1985-86. She was a trained Hospice volunteer and was recognized by the American Red Cross for donating more than ten gallons of blood in addition to her many years of volunteer work at the Blood Drives.

Since the late 1970s, Evelyn and Lou spent winters in Florida where they had many wonderful friends in The Courtyards of Cape Coral.  Evelyn enjoyed driving the “Folks Wagon” at Cape Coral Hospital, providing golf cart rides from the parking lot to the entrance.  In her 70’s she began to develop computer skills and in the last few years she even had a Facebook page.  She was an avid reader and truly loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Her final words were, “I have to go now.  Tell everyone I said goodbye.”

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lewis F. Carbone of Niles, sons: Lew Jr. (Kathy) of Norwalk, OH, Larry (Nancy) of Brookfield, OH, Lennie of Norton, OH and Susan Heatherington of White Oak, PA, the “daughter” she chose. Grandchildren: Takesha (Nicki) Cross-Carbone, Scott, Sarah and Callilah Carbone, Dana and Danielle Ackerman, Stephanie, Lauren and Megan Caswell.

She is also survived by her brother, Joseph P. Tisone of McDonough, GA., many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
