George J. Galovich Jr., 90 of Hermitage, formerly of Niles died Tuesday October 28, 2014 at Sharon Regional Health Systems.
He was born September 15, 1924 in Youngstown the son of George and Anna Gurgavich Galovich Sr.
George was employed as a laborer and union representative at Republic Steel in Niles. He was also employed at National Auto Sales, was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Niles, Hermitage Senior Center, enjoyed working on cars, attending Croatian Picnic, Chaperoning for The Niles Cardettes, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a United States Marine Veteran of World War II having been stationed in the South Pacific near Iwo Jima.
His wife Mae McDonald Galovich whom he married June 1949 died January 28, 2000.
He will be deeply missed by two daughters, Linda Kardos and her husband Paul of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, Jo Anne Rappach and her husband Michael of Brookfield, six grandchildren, Melanie Isaac and her husband Kevin, Nicole Kardos and her boyfriend Edward Anderson, Tiffany Kardos, Michael Rappach and his wife Wendy, Shawn Rappach and his wife Ashlee, and Brandon Rappach and his girlfriend Raianna Hnida, five great-grandchildren, Caden, Tyler, Aubrianna, Alexis, Braydn, a sister-in-law Martha Galovich, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother Joseph G. Galovich and a sister Katherine Durig.
Friends may call from 8:30AM to 9:30AM Thursday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Thursday at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Niles preceded by a 9:30AM service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery where George will be honored for his military service by The Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
