Harry C. Biery Jr., 80, of Ashtabula, formerly of Niles, died Saturday July 2, 2016.
He was born March 1, 1936 in Niles, the son of Harry and Ila Griffiths Biery.
He was a 1954 graduate of Niles McKinley High School where he ran track and held a track record for 10 years. He was employed in the banking industry in Niles, served on the Niles City Fire Department for 23 years before retiring as a captain, and was a veteran of the United States Air Force Reserves. He and his wife co-owned Madsen Donuts in Niles and Geneva-on-the-Lake for 31 years which is now owned by his son Keith. When he wasn’t working during the evenings, you could find him sitting on the bench in front of the donut shop socializing.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Niles, enjoyed dancing, music, woodworking, puzzles, and model trains. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Beverly Schultz Biery whom he married August 5, 1961, son Kurt Biery and his wife Julie of Lombard, Illinois, daughter Karen Chech of Ashtabula, son Keith Biery and his wife Billie of Geneva, five grandchildren, Kristen Kelley and her husband Tim, Michael Anderson and his wife Brittany, Mathew Anderson, Adam Biery, and Carlee Biery, and a great-granddaughter Alexis Kelley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Kim Biery.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
