Theodore J. Sloban, 88, of Niles, died at 4:00PM Monday February 8, 2016 at Lake Vista of Cortland.

He was born December 9, 1927 in Newton Falls the son of Sam and Teresa Regalia Sloban.

Ted was a 1945 graduate of Newton Falls High School where he served as class president and attended Miami of Ohio University.

He was employed as a carpenter then as a meat cutter for 25 years at loblaws Grocery Store and in 1970 was production supervisor at General Motors Lordstown for 19 years retiring in 1989.

He was a member of Niles First United Methodist Church, Niles Masonic Lodge, was a professional boxer and inducted into The Legends of Leather Boxing Hall of Fame in 1994,and played semi-pro football for two years. Ted also was member, past president, and Secretary of The Trumbull-Mahoning County Beagle Club where he also served as field trial judge, coached basketball in Champion and in Niles with his grandchildren, coached ten soccer leagues in eight years, played the guitar in several area county western bands, and an United States Army Veteran where he was also a mountain climbing and ski instructor.

His wife Rita L. Bandy Sloban whom he married May 28, 1950 died June 20, 2012.

He will be deeply missed by a son Theodore Sloban II and his wife Donna of Niles, a daughter Vickie Candel and her husband David of Vienna, a brother Samuel Sloban Jr, and his wife Eleanor of Niles, a son-in-law Donald Cox of Champion, six grandchildren, Donald Cox II and his wife Stephanie, Denise Hoysack and her husband Jeremy, Holly Fisher and her husband Eric, Abbey Bixler and her husband Noah, Theodore Sloban III, and Rita Mitchell and her husband Nate, and nine great-grandchildren, Joshua and Samantha Cox, Brenden and Valerie Hoysack, Caitlyn, Giana, and Olivia Fisher, Benjamin Bixler, and Peyton Rose Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Cox, and two sisters, Vera Smith and Helen Gilette.

Friends may call Thursday from 10 to 11AM at Niles First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held 11AM Thursday at Niles First United Methodist Church with Pastor Nathan Howe officiating .Ted will honored for his military service by The Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard immediately after the service.

Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
