Vincent Anthony DeMatteis, 86, of Niles, went home to the Lord on Thursday April 16th 2015 at 7a.m. at his residence surrounded by his family.
Vince was born May 16, 1928 in Niles the son of Amedeo and Vera Vecchione DeMatteis.
He graduated from Niles McKinley High School Class of 1946. Thereafter he served his country in the US Marine Corps.
Vince was employed at Copperweld Steel in Warren in the finishing department for 35 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of the N.R.A., Ohio Big Buck Club and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Vince also enjoyed billiards, traveling and was a regular member of the old timers McDonald’s Coffee Club where he only would tell “true stories”.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 65 years Thelma Cicero DeMatteis, whom he married on June 24, 1950, two sons Vincent (Chrissy) DeMatteis of Niles and Atty.Martin (Debora Witten) DeMatteis of Jamestown, PA, a granddaughter Theresa (Jim) Evetts of Sachse,Texas, three great-grandchildren Kaylie, Claire and Colson Evetts, a sister Catherine Giangardella of Niles and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00pm Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles officiated by his nephew Father Christopher Cicero. A 12:30 p.m. prayer service will proceed the mass at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Park in Warren.
