Joanne DeJute

Joanne Iannizzaro DeJute, 94, of Niles, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 8, 2018.

Joanne was born February 29, 1924, the first of seven children to Patsy and Dorothy Castellano Iannizzaro. She married Frank DeJute, Jr. on February 23, 1946 and they were married for 44 years. She was the loving mother of four children to whom she devoted heart and soul. Her life revolved around her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, parents, and brother and sisters, who were among her closest friends.

Joanne worked with her husband Frank at McKinley Motors and also was a Trumbull County Deputy Sheriff.. She had diverse interests, including cooking, gardening, needle work and traveling. She was also an avid reader. Joanne volunteered in the community in various ways, including Meals on Wheels and at Northside and Hillside Hospitals. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, volunteered at the church’s annual festival, school library, and served as PTA president.

She is survived by her four children, Frank(Marilyn) DeJute, Patrick(Sandra) DeJute, Barbara Frank, and Frances(Thomas) Rayburn as well as two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Mary Pytlik, Frank(Rachel) Iannizzaro, and Clara (Raymond) Ragazzo, along with many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her sisters Fannie Miele and Frances Griffith, and her brother Robert Iannizzaro.

Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles where The Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 6:30PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1PM Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Niles preceded by a 12:30PM prayer service at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
