Marlene J. Marino, age 76, of Niles, passed peacefully and surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer at Shepherd of the Valley,Howland, Monday April 22, 2019.
She was born the daughter of the late Michael and Ann “Congemi” Kopkas, on October 1, 1942 in Youngstown.
Marlene was a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel inYoungstown. She was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and moved from Boardman to Niles 10 years ago.
She took great pride in her faith in God, Italian and Slovak heritage and loved music, dancing, shopping, baking and was an avid sports fan, especially the Cleveland Indians.
She was known for her gentle loving ways and beautiful smile and love of her family, especially her pride and joy, her grandson Joseph Anthony Walters.
Memories of Marlene will be carried on by her daughter, Jodi (Mark) Walters of Howland and son Thomas Marino III of Masury and her three grandchildren,Joseph Anthony Walters of Howland, Liane Walters of San Diego, CA., andAmanda Walters of Seattle, WA., her aunt Roslyn Monaco of Poland, Ohio,along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Marlene was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Marino Jr. whom she married May 13, 1967 and who passed September 22, 2017, and a brother Gerald Kopkas.
Family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home, 457 Robbins Avenue in Niles.
Prayers at the funeral home will be 9:00 am and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 343 Via Mt. Carmel Avenue Youngstown, Friday at 10:00 am.
Burial will conclude at Niles City Cemetery following the services.
