Richard C. Maines Sr., 70, of Niles, passed away at 9:00AM Sunday May 26, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 26, 1949 in Clearfield, Pennsylvania the son of Richard G. and Mary Ortasic Maines.
Richard was a 1968 graduate of Clearfield High School, employed as a coal miner in Pennsylvania, then U.S. Steel for eight years, and as a custodian for Niles City School for 28 years. He was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship in Girard, William McKinley Post 106 of the American Legion in Niles, and a United States Air Force veteran of The Vietnam War having served as a mechanic. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, building models, trains, and woodworking.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Barbara Leigey Maines whom he married May 16, 1970, a son Richard C. Maines Jr. and his wife Jen of Niles, a daughter Angelique Vazquez and her husband Javier of Pittsburgh, three brothers, Sam Maines and his wife Virginia of Big Run, Pennsylvania, Michael Maines of Dubois, Pennsylvania, and Mark Maines of Penfield, Pennsylvania, two sisters, Patty Maines of Zanesville, Ohio, and Fran Hutchins and her husband Tim of Brockport, Pennsylvania, five grandchildren, Emily Wagner, Carlie Maines, Natalie Maines, Isabella and Gabby Vazquez, and two great-grandchildren Ronnie Young and Ryland Young.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Joseph Maines.
Friends may call Wednesday from 10AM to 1PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
Richard will be honored for his military service by The Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard at 1PM Wednesday followed by funeral services officiated by Pastor Michael Constantino and Deacon Larry Bass at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
