Samuel Sloban Jr., 81, of Niles, passed away at 12:42AM Saturday December 29, 2018 at his residence.
He was born November 11, 1937 in Newton Falls, Ohio the son of Sam and Tressa Regalia Sloban
Sam was a 1955 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, an instructor for Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Warren for eight years, then employed at General Motors Lordstown for 38 years retiring in 2000.After retirement Sam worked at The Avalon Golf Course for eight years.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, served on its Parish Council, Bereavement Ministry, lay leader of prayer, and church festival volunteer where he was chairman of the bingo tent.
Sam was also a member of the Jolly Boys Monday Night Gang and The SVHA where he served on its board for eight years and was president for the last year and a half. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, and playing poker every Saturday Night with their friends, The Burless’.
He will be sadly missed by his wife and best friend Eleanor Soltis Sloban whom he married January 13, 1962, several nieces and nephews, and his puppy Missy II
He was preceded in death by a daughter Tracy E. Sloban, a brother, Theodore J. Sloban, and two sisters, Helen Gillette and Vera Smith.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 7PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home where the Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 6:30PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Thursday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles preceded by a 9:30AM prayer service at the funeral home.
Arrangements are being handled by The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
