Alice R. Helwig, 89, of Niles went to be with the Lord on March 10, 2015 surrounded by her sons, loved ones, and her beloved dog Bailey.

She was born December 17, 1925 in Niles the daughter of Andrew and Josephine Perna Fagnano.

Alice was a 1943 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, attended Warren Business College, and was employed by the Federal Government for almost 40 years. During those years she was traffic manager at The Lordstown Ordinance Depot, The Youngstown Airbase and inspector for the Navy Finance Center. She was dedicated to her work and loved our military and our country. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles where she was baptized and received 1'st Communion.

Her husband William B. Helwig whom she married November 28, 1946 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, died March 17, 1968.

Alice deeply loved her family and will be deeply missed by her two sons William J. Helwig and Robert Helwig both of Warren, a brother Richard Fagnano of Girard, her nieces and nephews, and her loving puppy Bailey.

She was preceded in death by a brother Robert Fagnano and her parents.

Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles where The Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 7:30PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles preceded by a 9:30AM prayer service at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.

Robert and William both want to thank Dr. Ballester for caring for mom for many years, Dr. Brodell's office for their love and support, and to her caregivers Tami, Tami, Rose, Ali, Melinda, Pattie, Jonathan, Lisa, and Mark for their care and compassion. MVI Hospice was also a great help providing kind compassionate care. Robert and William also give their love and thanks to family and friends for their support.
