Obituary

Amelia Datchuk passed away at 11:40am Friday, August 1st , 2014 at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Niles.

Amelia was born November 16, 1935 in Niles, the daughter of Giuseppe and Pasqualina Mauro Gioiello. She was a life-long Niles resident.

Amelia graduated in 1953 from Niles McKinley High School. In 1955, she married a fellow "East-Sider" from Baldwin Street, a handsome Polish-American named Stanley "Stash" Datchuk. She and Stan were married 58 years before he passed away on November 28, 2013.

Amelia's life revolved around her family and her home. She and Stan raised four children at their beloved home on Hartzell Avenue. Their house was always open to family and friends, and it's where many great memories were made.

As a youngster growing up in Niles, Amelia loved playing sports with the kids in the "old neighborhood." We enjoyed listening to her tell anecdotes about the good times that she had with her family and friends. She loved the Cleveland Indians, and would take the train to watch them play with her friends.

In later years, Amelia loved watching her grandchildren participate in sporting events, and would enjoy just "talking sports" with her nephew, Steve Ruman, and the late Sal Marino. After she married, she adopted our dad's team, the Detroit Tigers, and you always knew it was football season when she flew her Penn State and Packer flags.

Amelia enjoyed doing yardwork, and took tremendous pride in her home on Hartzell Avenue.

Besides her beloved parents and husband, Amelia was preceded in death by a brother, Carmen Gioiello.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Joseph ( Phyllis "Mimi" ) of Girard, Lisa ( Mark) Tepsich of McDonald, Carmen of Niles, and Julie (Joseph) Burnham of Niles, grandchildren, Atty. Joseph ( Emily) Datchuk of Girard, Atty. Mark Tepsich of Cleveland, Carmen J. Datchuk of Niles, Sarah Tepsich of McDonald, and Emily Burnham of Niles, a great-grandson, Luca Datchuk, and two step-grandchildren, Joshua and Taylor Burnham. She will also be deeply missed by her sister, Connie Lyell of Niles, her brother Neil Gioiello and his wife Betty, also of Niles, her dear friends, Armand Liberatore of Niles and Connie Allard of Warren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Monday from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Monday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Niles, with Father John-Michael Lavelle officiating, preceded by a 9:30 AM prayer service at the funeral home.
