Obituary

Anne Macali, 94, passed away in peace on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Anne was born on March 6, 1930, the second child of Vittorio and Paulina (Taranta) Lorenzetti. A lifelong resident of the Niles and Warren communities, Anne was known for her laughter. Some of her greatest joys were entertaining, cooking, and baking for others. Anne was a 1948 graduate of Niles McKinley High School. In high school and as a young adult, she worked at Griswold's Department Store, advancing through various departments. Later in life she built a career in real estate. Anne was united in marriage to Palmer (Barney) Macali on February 14, 1955. They were married for 59 years, prior to Barney's death in 2014. Their relationship exemplified commitment and enduring love. Anne was also preceded in death by her sister Lena Fateley and her first husband Al Zamarelli. Always maternal, Anne was beloved by family and friends for the steadiness of her love, depth of her loyalty and charming sense of humor. Later in life, Anne was blessed to be a part of the Shepherd of the Valley community, where she was active in organized activities. She loved being surrounded by old friends and new, including the dedicated Shepherd of the Valley staff. Her love of friends and neighbors was surpassed only by an unyielding and faithful devotion to her family. She leaves behind her proudest achievements and greatest love, her family: children Ralph (Karen) Macali, Paula Macali, Palmer J. (Renee) Macali, and Mary Beth Macali; grandchildren Christopher (Natalie) Macali, Quinn Macali, Tyler (Maria) Macali, Marco Macali, Nina Macali, Nicholas Macali, Spencer Hartling, and Anneliese Hartling; and great-grandchildren Anne, Julian, Bennett and Charlotte. Additionally, she is survived by her sister Mary Louise (Bob) Kosinski, sister-in-law Dolores Macali, and several nieces and nephews. She will be missed immensely and remembered with true joy and gratitude. The family would like to acknowledge and thank her wonderful caregivers: Shanna Brown, Melissa Brown, Darlene Brown, Marie Brown, Shikera Jones, Marie Ord, Lisa Russell and Lauren Smith. Calling hours will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church in Warren on Monday, June 3 at 10 a.m. A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Ohio Living Hospice of Greater Youngstown in Anne's memory.
