Obituary

Bruce W. Palmer, 56, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away suddenly at work on Friday October 14, 2022. He was born August 16, 1966 in Warren Ohio. He is the son of Carl "Shorty" Palmer and Patricia Lutz Palmer. He was a 1984 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and a graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Visual Communications. Bruce was a lifelong photographer, who received many honors for his work, including several Associated Press photography awards and the William Randolph Hearst Foundation Journalism Award. His photojournalism career began at the Niles Daily Times as a staff photographer, and he went on to work at The Tribune Chronicle and The Vindicator. He then began working as a university photographer, beginning at Youngstown State University for seven years, where he also taught several photography classes. In 2015, he and his family moved to Tallahassee, where he became a photographer in the marketing and communications department at Florida State University. Bruce loved playing golf on his days off, playing guitar, riding bikes with his wife Sherri, and going to concerts with his family. Even though photography was his job, it was also his passion, and he loved taking photos of the world around him and the people he loved. When living in Ohio, he was a member of the Cortland United Methodist Church. He will be deeply missed by his whole family. He leaves behind his wife Sherri Johnson Palmer (married June 6, 1988), his son Christopher Palmer of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, his daughter Amber Palson and her wife Kaylie Palson of Madison Wisconsin, and his daughter Paige Palmer of Tallahassee, Florida. He also leaves behind his parents Carl "Shorty" Palmer and Patricia Lutz Palmer, as well as his brother Terry Palmer and his wife Paula Palmer of McComb, Michigan. Included in those who will miss him is his French Bulldog Wall-e D. Chubbs Palmer, who is the only dog he ever really loved. He joins his grandmother Alberta Palmer and his grandfather Robert Palmer.Bruce touched the lives of so many people and will be deeply missed by everyone who ever knew him. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles. Funeral services will be held 10:30AM Saturday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
