Charles John Scheetz 85,of Niles died at 11:40AM Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at his residence.
He was born December 31, 1924 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of Frank John and Christina Genevie Restle Scheetz.
He was employed for Western Auto , Isaley's , U.S. Steel McDonald Works , Shively's Ford , Bob Eddy's Ford , Anthony's Auto Sale ,and The State Liquor Store before retiring in 1989.
He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Niles and The Niles Jr. Chamber of Commerce. For 20 years, Chuck and his daughter were always seen in the window of her business, Jeannie's Custom Drapery Shop on Robbins Ave, every Christmas, New Years, and Easter as Santa Claus, Father Time, and The Easter Bunny. In 1991 he was the first to receive The Community Spirit Award presented from The Niles Jaycees.
He enjoyed woodworking, bowling, and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II.
His wife E. Jean Stephens Scheetz whom he married July 27, 1946 died July 3, 1983.
He will be deeply missed by a son Charles J. Scheetz II of Niles, a daughter, Regina K. Vaughn and her husband Don of Niles, seven grandchildren, Shawn Crank, Heidi Berry, Sonya Godfrey, Dawn Stubblefield, Rhondalyn Childers, Robert Vaughn, and Shannon Grossman, 20 great-grandchildren,and one great-great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by six brothers, Paul, Earl, Donald, Howard, John, and Frank Scheetz.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Saturday at St. Stephen Catholic Church, with Fr. Thomas Kraszewski officiating, preceded by a 9:30AM prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery where Chuck will be honored for his military service by The Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
