IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Colette L.
Smith
July 1, 1929 – March 10, 2021
Colette L. Smith, of Austintown, passed away with her family by her side on Wednesday, March 10, at the age of 91. Born and raised in Reims, France, to parents Maurice and Jeanne along with two sisters Christine and Jacqueline, Colette left for America in 1947 after meeting and falling in love with Albert F. Smith who served in the U.S. Army during the Second World War. They settled in McKinley Heights, Ohio, raised a family, and remained devoted to each other until Albert's passing in 1984. Colette was often the center of any social gathering. If she wasn't telling a story, she was encouraging someone else to. She seldom missed a family reunion, birthday party, or holiday celebration. In her earlier years, Colette could be found bowling in one of the leagues at McKinley Lanes where she formed many lifelong friendships. She is survived by her children, Betsy (James) Sheldon of Niles, Alan (Trey) Smith of Austintown, and Jesse (Annie) Smith of Lorain and her grandchildren Bruce Mitchell, James (Jay) Sheldon, Carissa (James) Painter, Jesse Alan Smith, Matthew (Casey) Smith and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Sheldon. Calling hours will be Monday, March 15th from 12:00-1:30 PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles where social distancing and masks are mandatory. Private family services will follow. Memorial contributions can be sent to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are being handled by The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
