Ermine A. "Buddy" Cordy, 92, of Girard, died at 2:45AM Monday January 25, 2016 at Liberty Health Care Center.

He was born March 6, 1923 in Lowellville the son of Frank and Mariantonia Marzana Cordy and moved to Niles as a child where he grew up.

He was a 1942 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, employed at Mahoning Valley Steel later to be known as Jones and Laughlin Steel Company.  Buddy also worked as a truck driver for the Mahoning Valley Distributing Company in Youngstown. He was a custodian at The McKinley Memorial Library, Ursuline High School, and in his later years, at Masternick Vending Company.

Buddy was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Girard.  He enjoyed woodworking, drawing, gardening, tap dancing, and spending time with his family, especially with his girls whom he loved very much.

He was a United States Naval veteran of World War II serving as a Coxswain, Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen (SWCC), on the USS Birmingham and received the Victory Medal, European-African Area 1 Star, Asiatic-PacificArea 7 Stars, Philippine Liberation 1 Star, and The Purple Heart.

He married the love of his life, Mary Scala Cordy on June 18, 1949, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, in Niles.  The couple moved to Girard where they lived together for 58 years until her death on January 12, 2007.

He will be deeply missed by two daughters, Stephanie Rider and her husband Thomas of Girard and Gerrianne Costantini and her husband Robert of Girard, a sister Marie Accordino of Niles, and three grandchildren, Megan Mintern and her husband Christopher, Lindsay Rider, and Michael Costantini.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank Cordy, Samuel Cordy, Jerome Cordy, and Vincent Cordy, and four sisters, Fanny Cordy, Julia Infante, Elizabeth Moro, and Yolanda St. Onge

Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 5PM at St. Rose Catholic Church in Girard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 5:00PM Thursday at St. Rose Catholic Church in Girard.

Full military honors and internment will be held 11:00AM Friday at Crown Hill Cemetery conducted by The Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
