Frank E. Volk, Jr. 78 of Niles died at 10 PM Friday August 9, 2013 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio.
He was born July 1, 1935 in Ernest, Pennsylvania the son of Frank and Ann Zasadny Volk, Sr.
He was a 1953 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Warren and a graduate of ETI with a degree in drafting. Frank retired in 1997 as a supervisor from LTV Republic Steel where he worked in various departments.
Frank was a member of Mt. Carmel Parish in Niles, Amvets 0106, The Knights of Columbus, and The VA. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and was an avid NASCAR and Mark Martin fan. In his younger years, he taught the accordion and played it in a band. Frank was a dedicated sports fan, especially of the Cleveland Indians and Browns. He truly loved his two granddaughters and enjoyed watching them perform on stage at their dance competitions.
Frank was a United States Army Veteran during the Korean War where he was stationed at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina.
Frank will be deeply missed by his wife Martha Nicastro Volk whom he married May 18, 1957, two daughters, Dr. Marita Volk Allen and her husband Dr. Marc Allen of Aurora, Ohio and Marnetta Xides and her husband Nick Xides of Howland, and two granddaughters, Maria Xides and Nicole Xides. He will also be greatly missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Volk and Donald Volk, and a sister, Dorothy Thirion.
Friends may call from 9:30 to the time of the memorial service which will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles with Father John-Michael Lavelle officiating.
