Vross
September 19, 1927 – June 9, 2016
- George John Vross, 88, passed in the early morning of Thursday, June 9, 2016, surrounded by family.
He was a loving husband and father, as well as a dedicated grandfather and great-grandfather.
George was born on September 19, 1927, in Youngstown Ohio, the son of George and Alice Tesyk Vross.
He attended The Rayen School until he joined the United States Army and served in Germany during World War II as a truck driver. Upon his arrival home as a U.S. Army Veteran, he owned and operated Niles Ice Company and delivered to surrounding communities. Following his father-in-law's sudden death in 1953, he was an influential figure in the continuation of the family funeral home for 50 years. In 2002, he received a diploma of graduation from Youngstown City Schools.
He met his loving and dedicated wife, Marie Rossi, at Avon Oaks while dancing. They married May 12, 1951 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles. They were members of the parish where George was the first ever bus driver for the affiliated school.
He enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities, including boating, fishing, hunting and flying planes. He also enjoyed spending time at his workbench, wood working and making fishing lures. Together, he and Marie enjoyed putting together puzzles and venturing to the casino. By many, he was known for his stories and jokes that always made you laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marie Rossi Vross; son John and Nancy Vross of McDonald; daughter Sharon and Jon Jarvis of Cortland; daughter Georgiana Naoum and Paul Sunderlin of Boardman and brother, Tom and Chris Vross of Boardman.
His memory lives on through his grandchildren, Mathew and Shara Vross, Alexa and Rollin Matsui, Stephanie Naoum and Brett Adams and Jenelle Bayus and great grandson, Benjamin Vross.
Also surviving George is brother-in-law, Joseph Rossi Jr. and wife Bonnie; nephews, Joseph F. Rossi III, Thomas Rossi and his wife Jane and their family He will be remembered by many other nieces and nephews around the country.
He is preceded in death by his son-in-law Alex Naoum, his parents, George and Alice Tesyk Vross; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Donald Frank.
Over the years, George had many faithful caregivers that he and Marie became extremely close with. The family would like to extend their deepest thank you to them.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 13 at Joseph Rossi & Sons Funeral Home in Niles, Oh. The Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Niles City Cemetery, where George will be honored for his military service by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
George's family would like those to remember him by performing a random act of kindness for a friend, neighbor, or stranger.
