Gerald A. Smith, 88, of Niles died at 12:24AM Friday September 25, 2015 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.

He was born January 11, 1927 in Mount Vernon, Georgia the son of Needham and Emmie Woods Smith.

He was a 1945 graduate of Brewton- Parker High School in Mount Vernon, Georgia, employed at Sisson Scale and Toledo Scale as a valuematic technician retiring in 1992, enjoyed using ham radio, fishing, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, and a United States Naval Veteran of World War II and Korea.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Phyllis Robinson Smith whom he married April 30, 1949, a son Guy Smith and his wife Cindy of Beaufort, South Carolina, two daughters Cheryl Shehy and her husband Bill of Niles and Brenda Madden and her husband Jack of Girard, four brothers, Vernon Smith of Atlanta, Georgia, Willis Smith and his wife Carol of Scaly Mountain, North Carolina, Carlton Smith and his wife Gloria of Atlanta, Georgia, Ronald Smith and his wife Carol Ann of Lakeland, Florida, a sister Martha Rodriguez of Salt Lake City, Utah, thirteen grandchildren, Denise Wood and her husband Steve, William J. Shehy and his wife Jenn, Daniel Shehy, Eric Madden, Courtney Keller and her husband Matt, Jamie Metz and her husband Ted, Kimberly Middleton and her husband Larry, Kelly Overstreet, Justin Overstreet and his wife Ashley, Geoffery Smith, Katie Dugger and her husband Kurt, Emily Smith, and Patrick Smith, seven great-grandchildren, and a son-in-law Michael Overstreet of Rincon, Georgia.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Karen Overstreet, and a brother Jarvis Smith

Friends may call from 5 to 7PM Tuesday and 10:30AM to 11:00AM Wednesday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.

Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Wednesday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles with Pastor David Burman officiating.

Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery where Gerald will be honored for his military service by The Trumbull County American Legion Honor guard.

Arrangements are being handled by The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
