Grace C. (Palermo) Prystash, passed away Sunday May 19 2013 at Grace Woods Assisted Senior Living in Niles. Her daughter and grandchildren were present as she gracefully went to meet her lord and re-unite with her husband in heaven.
Grace touched so many lives throughout her years with her sincere kindness and generosity. She was a devoted career women, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. She lived her life caring for her family. She used her wit, sense of humor, and contagious, smile, to make others feel welcome while cherishing her family, friends, and neighbors whom she held close to her heart.
A life long Trumbull County Resident Grace was born December 8, 1921 in Niles Ohio to Pio and Caroline Fioli Palermo and was the oldest of five children.
She graduated from Niles McKinley High School in 1938 and attended Warren Business College beginning her career as a bookkeeper for Sears Roebuck Company in the accounting department. On November 25 1948 she married Steve G. Prystash and along with pursuing her career she became a devoted wife and homemaker. For Grace cooking, baking, and sewing were not a hobby but her passion. Being very proud of her Italian Heritage she shared her expertise with family and friends especially during holidays or special occasions. Everyone looked forward to enjoying her "Cookie Trays"
Grace also had a strong sense of community. She was a life long member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles and was actively involved with its various organizations being most proud to serve as the coordinator of the annual church festival. Other community organizations she participated in included Trumbull Business and Professional Women's Club, The Liberty Historical Society, and Neighborhood Card Club.
She leaves behind a daughter Carole L. Bertolini of Canfield with whom she made her home before returning to her hometown of Niles, her grandchildren whom she was most proud of and very influential in their upbringing; Joseph Carl Bertolini (Valerie) of Columbus,Ohio; John Alexander Bertolini of Castleberry, Florida, and Jennifer Lynn Bertolini of Columbus, Ohio, her great-grandchildren; Alexander Doran Bertolini and Nicholas Steven Bertolini, and a brother Joseph A. Palermo of Niles, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Grace was preceded in death by her beloved husband Steve who passed away March 28, 1998, a son at birth, her parents, her brothers, Albert Palermo and Salvadore Palermo, and a sister Jenny Palermo.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles where The Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 6:30PM.
Service of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Thursday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles with Father John-Michael Lavelle officiating.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
Although Grace will be greatly missed she was fortunate to have made many memories with family and friends that will never be forgotten. A very special thank you goes to Grace Woods Village for making Grace feel "at home". Much gratitude to Hospice of The Valley for providing Grace excellent health care during her final weeks. Her family is most appreciative for their loving support.
