Guy Joseph Coviello, 91, died in Shepherd of the Valley-Niles, at 12:30 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2016, after a brief illness.

Mr. Coviello was born Oct. 19, 1924, in Niles, the son of Alfonso and Erina (Fraino) Coviello.

Guy attended Niles McKinley High School. He worked for the Loblaws Supermarkets for 19 years, then Fisher-Fazio Foods for seven years. He also worked for D'Urso Bakery before retiring.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Niles and the United Food and Commercial Workers. He was an avid golfer, reader, enjoyed following the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians, and most of all cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family.

Mr. Coviello survived a near-fatal childhood illness and until two weeks ago lived in his home while meeting daily at McDonald's with longtime, close friends. The family is grateful for his best friend and neighbor Mike Jones. His children were by his side through his final days.

On June 12,1944, Guy was honorably discharged from the U.S. Naval Training Station, Great Lakes, Ill., where he served as Apprentice Seaman, V6, Selective Volunteer.

On July 1, 1950, he married Ann Marie Timko of Campbell. They enjoyed dancing and playing pinochle together with friends and family. They remained married until her death on Feb. 10, 2006.

Mr. Coviello is survived by a daughter, Erina and her husband Thomas Schneider of Howland; three sons, Joseph A. and his wife Sarah (Thompson) Coviello of Liberty, Ronald G. and his wife Anne (Matuszwski) Coviello of Broadview Heights, and Guy C. and his wife Denise (Kosec) Coviello of Liberty; seven grandchildren, Aaron Schneider, Joshua Schneider, Meredith (Schneider) Schulz, Aleska Coviello, Allan Coviello, Jenifer Coviello and Jonattan Coviello; two great-grandchildren, Easton Schneider and Olivia Schneider; and dozens of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Boic, Levia Rossi and Connie Ciminero; and a brother, Joseph Coviello.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Joseph Rossi & Sons Funeral Home in Niles, where the Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 7:30 p.m.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Joseph Rossi & Sons Funeral Home in Niles. Friends may also call 30 minutes prior to the service.

Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery in Niles.

In lieu of flowers, material contributions can be made in Guy's name to the Shepherd's Foundation, c/o the funeral home, 457 Robbins Ave., Niles 44446.
