Helen B. McCoy, 92, of Niles died at 10:00AM Thursday January 3, 2013 at her daughter's home where she resided..

She was born September 19, 1920 in Niles the daughter of Guy and Minnie Roberts Smurro.

Helen was a 1938 graduate of Niles McKinley High School where she was a member of the marching band, and a graduate of Business College in Youngstown .

She was employed for the core of engineers in Washington D.C. and Youngstown, The Lordstown Ordinace and Military Reservation in the mail and records department, and a dental assistant for Dr. Westfall's office in Niles.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society, and Niles SCOPE where she enthusiastically participated in their annual variety show.

She enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, reading, and visiting and celebrating holidays with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Prior to his death on December 24, 2003, she enjoyed many years of travel with her husband James J. McCoy Jr. whom she married May 5, 1945.

Helen will be deeply missed by a son Dr. James J. McCoy III and his wife Ruth of Chicago, Illinois, a daughter Cindy Hlas of Howland with whom she made her home, four grandchildren, Alexis Forsythe and her husband David, Bridget Lewis and her husband Brendan, Jennifer Guido and her husband Bob, and Christopher Hlas, four great grandchildren, Patrick and Brendan Forsythe, Boden and Pace Hlas Guido and a nephew Anthony Nardo and his wife Barbara.

She is preceded in death by three sisters, Julia Nardo, Clara Smurro, Irene Smurro and a son-in-law David Hlas.

Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 5PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles where The Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society will conduct prayers at 2:45PM and The Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry at 4:30PM. Friends may also call Monday from 9:15 to 9:45AM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.

Due to the Renovation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Helen's Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10AM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles with Fr. John-Michael Lavelle officiating,

Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery.
