John Patrick Isoldi, Sr. fell asleep in the Lord January 22, 2014 with his adoring family by his side. John was an inspiration to all who knew him and an example of unconditional love and devotion to his family. He was born in Warren, Ohio March 22, 1949. After attending grade school at St. Stephens in Niles, he went on to be a star football player for 1966 Niles McKinley Red Dragons who were 5th in the nation that year. He later attended Hiram College on a football scholarship. His life long dream came true in 1971 when he graduated from the Ohio State Highway Patrol academy. While with the Patrol he received 59 commendation letters and 11 awards. He was assigned to plain clothes division in1976. He was promoted to Sergeant on the Ohio Turnpike in 1978 and to Lieutenant in 1991. Isoldi was also a C.O.M.M.A.N.D. Team member: Special Weapons tactical unit assault division. He lead multiple supervisor executive protection motorcade details for Bush, Clinton, Gore and Buchanan. Isoldi was a frequent radio talk show guest for WKBN the Pete Gabriel Show. He finished his career as a Trooper in 1997 as commander of the OHP Canfield barracks. After retirement from the Highway Patrol, Isoldi continued his efforts in the community as a member of the Mahoning Valley Chiefs of Police Association, Political Corruptness Sheriff Review Board, Ohio State Troopers Coalition, American Society for Industrial Security, National Food Service Security Council, Ohio State Highway Patrol Retirees Association, and the National Retired Troopers Association. He attended North Mar Church of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. John was also an avid hunter, weightlifter, runner, fisherman, gardener, golfer, he was a true renaissance man. He loved sharing these passions with his children and grandchildren. On June 13, 1970 he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Amber. This union produced his greatest achievement , his 4 children who believed that he was the best there was. His wonderful memories will be carried on by Allyson (Dr. George) Spirtos, Jennifer (Jon Paul) Bruno, Elizabeth (Brandon) Rice and John Patrick Jr. (Tearra). His grandchildren, Irene Spirtos, Amber Spirtos, Anna Marie Spirtos, Markella Spirtos, Nektarios Spirtos, Ephraimia Spirtos, Joseph Spirtos, Marina Spirtos, Michael Spirtos, Maria Spirtos, Giovanni Bruno, Rocco Bruno, Leo Rice and Alexandra Rice, and his father-in-law "Bill" Perry who treasured him. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Mildred Perry and brother-in-law, Billy Perry. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8pm and Saturday 9:30am until the time of the 10am Funeral Service at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles officiated by Pastor Myron Daum.
