John Gurnak Jr, 85, of Liberty Township, near Youngstown, Ohio, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at The University Hospital of Cleveland.
He was born August 15, 1928 in Campbell, Ohio the son of John and Josephine Wiwiorka Gurnak.
John served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1952. He was employed as an optician and then went on to work for Youngstown Sheet & Tube and U.S. Steel, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Youngstown. He loved animals, gardening, and spending time with family.
His wife Rosemarie "Dolly" Gurnak, whom he married November 2, 1968, died January 31, 2005.
He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Angela Mulcahy and her husband Brian of South Lyon, Michigan, his son, John, of North Canton, his two grandsons, Caleb and Gavin Mulcahy, his sister Josephine McGory of San Diego, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Gurnak and a sister Helen Wittway
Friends may call from 5PM to 8PM Thursday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles where the Mt. Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 7:30PM
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles with Fr. John-Michael Lavelle officiating, preceded by a 9:30AM prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery where John will be honored for his military service.
Arrangements are being made by The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
