Joseph C. Perone, 100, of Girard, passed away on Saturday May 23, 2026 at Shepherd of The Valley Liberty.
He was born June 18 1925 the son of Frank and Antoinette Giuliano Perone.
He owned and operated Duel Painting most of his life, a member of Saint Pope John XXIII Parish-Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Niles, and The Monthly Italian Amici Club get together with friends.
Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting, skiing, and golfing as he recorded many hole-in-ones during his playing time even one at age 94.
He was a United States Naval Veteran of World War II having served as a 3’rd Class Gunners Mate on The U.S.S. Ault in The Asiatic Pacific Theatre. At the conclusion of the war he was able to witness the signing of the peace treaty with Japan on September 2, 1945. For his service he was awarded several military honors; The Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal with three stars, American Area Campaign Medal, European-African Area Campaign Medal with three stars, World War II Victory Medal, and The Philippine Liberation Medal with one star.
His wife Dora Flarey Perone whom he married October 10, 1948 died February 27, 2017.
He will be sadly missed by two daughters Diane Perone of Houston,Texas and Joette Sokol and her husband Stan of Girard, two grandchildren Amber Fagan and Lindsey Sokol and her husband Tyler, and a great-grandchild Allessandra Sokol-Kellems
He was preceded in death by a brother Michael Perone and a sister Clotilda “Mitzi” Perone.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Thursday at Saint Pope John XXIII Parish-Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Niles.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
