Kathryn Tauro

Kathryn (Stabile) Tauro, born in Niles, Ohio, on June 8, 1924, passed away peacefully at her home on April 13, 2026. Her life was filled with love, joy, and countless beautiful memories that will continue to live on in all who knew her. Her gentle spirit and warm smile brought comfort to everyone she met.

She is reunited in eternal rest with those who went before her: her parents, Anthony and Rose (LaPolla) Stabile; her beloved husband, Louis, and dear son, Robert; her sisters, Corsina Yannarella (Dominic) and Mary Jane O’Neill (widowed from James Lazzari and Patrick O’Neill); and her brothers, Leroy (Gerri), Joseph (Lucille), Anthony (Helen), and Robert (Alma). While we are grateful to still have her sister Rita (Gatta) to share in remembering Kathryn’s life and love, we also hold dear the memory of Aunt Rita’s late husband, Uncle Larry.

Kathryn’s life was filled with cherished moments—lively gatherings with family and friends, rich with laughter and joy, and quieter, more intimate visits around the kitchen table that meant so much to her. All who knew and loved her are forever held in our hearts, as they were in hers.

Kathryn began her career at Packard Electric before marrying Louis in 1947 and joining him at the Tauro Brothers Trucking Company. She loved working alongside her husband and all the dedicated employees she cared for deeply—and who loved her in return.

Above all, she devoted herself to her family. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Marilyn, and Marilyn’s husband, Frank DeJute, who has been like a son to her since their marriage in 1966; her sons, Richard and Ronald (Mary Ann, deceased); and her neighbor, Ken Heinselman (Michelle, Jake, and Katie), who was also like a son to her.

She was a proud grandmother to Kathryn Saban, Gina (Thomas Larney), Elizabeth (Robb Mitchell), and Cieleste (Michael Bassett); a great-grandmother to Justin, Frankie (Leslie), Louis, Gia, Thomas, Maya, and Kathryn; and a great-great-grandmother to Peyton, Frankie Jr., and Giovanni.

Kathryn found great joy in cooking and entertaining, always opening her home with warmth and generosity. Whether welcoming neighborhood children or notable guests such as Rosalynn Carter and baseball legend Joe DiMaggio, she made everyone feel at home. Indeed, the annual Belmont Stakes parties she and Louis hosted for business colleagues, friends, and family were legendary.

She had a deep love of learning, reading, and travel, and delighted in sharing her experiences with those she loved. The arts held a special place in her heart, particularly the Butler Institute of American Art, and she was a friend of the McKinley Memorial Library.

Kathryn’s life was a testament to kindness, hospitality, and enduring love. We are comforted in knowing her legacy will continue through the many lives she touched.

She was a lifelong member of Saint Pope John XXIII Parish -Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 381 Robbins Avenue, Niles, Ohio 44446, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Niles City Cemetery.
