Obituary

Louis Marney Nicastro, 91, of Niles, died peacefully at 10:25PM Friday January 10, 2014 at Autumn Hills Care Center in Niles.

He was born July 23, 1922 in Niles the son of Lorenzo and Theresa Covino Nicastro.

Louis was a 1940 graduate of Farrell High School and a 1949 graduate of Westminister college with a Masters Degree in Business. He taught at Youngstown South and Chaney High Schools where he developed the Co-Operative Office Education programs with over 300 members. Louis also taught business courses at Youngstown College and Youngstown State University.

He was a proud United States Army veteran of World War II and a member of The 113th Calvary, 125th Reconnaisance squad who along with his armored car crew led the two day invasion with General George Patton from St. Lo, France to Paris, France. He received many medals for his service during the war.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles and started the first boys basketball team for Mt. Carmel School and was a Niles Little League Baseball Manager. He was an avid traveler and lead tours around the world for Youngstown AAA. His favorite hobby and passion was singing. He especially enjoyed singing with the Westminster College Alumni Chorus, Youngstown Symphony, Girard Concert and Swingtime band. He started singing in the 1940's and pal'd around with Frank Sinatra, who provided him coaching and several singing opportunities. He recorded several cd's of big band hits and singing appearances with the Top Notes and Smoothies.

His past memberships include the Farrell American Legion, Farrell Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Youngstown Education Association and The Mahoning and Youngstown Retired Teachers Associaton. He was recently inducted into the Farrell Area School District Alumni Association's Hall of Fame.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Josephine Infante Nicastro whom he married August 26, 1950, a son Lawrence Nicastro of Scottsdale, Arizona, daughter Marnie Nicastro of Scottsdale, Arizona, grandchildren, Kira Nicastro and Kristin Nicastro, a brother Pat Nicastro and his wife Marie of Brookfield, two sisters, Anne White of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, Jane Hudak and her husband Robert of Venice, Florida, , and a brother-in-law Pete Julian of Brookfield.

He was preceded in death by a sister Eleanor Julian.

Friends may call Thursday from 8 to 9:30AM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Thursday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles with Fr. John-Michael Lavelle officiating, preceded by a 9:30AM prayer service at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery where Louis will be honored for his military service by The Girard Veterans Council Honor Guard.

Arrangements are being handled by The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
