Lordstown- The family of Marvin E. Hanshaw gives thanks to God for the gift of his long and happy life which came to an end on Monday June 4, 2018 at the Cleveland Clinic Hospice House at the age of 81 surrounded by his loving family. Born March 8, 1937 in Carter County (Lawton), Kentucky, Marvin was the son of Cecil Hanshaw and Elizabeth Brown Hanshaw Wagoner and came to Niles in the summer of 1955. As a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Marvin's family meant everything to him. He was employed as a high lift operator, shipper and crane operator at the National Gypsum in Niles for 44 years retiring in 1999. During those years he built life-long friendships with many of his co-workers. Marvin enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as, many summers tending to his beautiful gardens at his former home on Pratt Street always competing with his father-in-law Nicholas Cicero to see who had the best garden. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles. Many summer vacations were spent with his family in Carter County visiting relatives and friends from his childhood. Dining out was something he truly enjoyed as well. He is survived by his loving wife Rose Mary Cicero Hanshaw, whom he married on June 13, 1959.  They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this coming June 13, 2018. He will be sadly missed by three sons: Deacon Michael Hanshaw and his wife Stacey of Liberty, Ohio; David Hanshaw of Lordstown, and Frank Hanshaw and his wife Jessica of Howland, Ohio. His grandchildren brought much joy and pride into his life, and he delighted in sharing in all of the significant moments of their lives from school sporting events to high school graduations. They include: Nick Hanshaw, Kyle Hanshaw, Chance Hanshaw, Melissa Hanshaw, Arianna Hanshaw and Nathaniel Hanshaw.  Great-grandchildren include Bentley Edward Lane and Madalynne Rose Hanshaw. Marvin is also survived by one brother, Bob Hanshaw and his wife Jackie of Lordstown, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, step father Joe Wagoner, brothers Coy Hanshaw, Johnny Hanshaw , Watt Hanshaw and a sister Lola Stone. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM Friday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles, where The Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 6:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, preceded by a 9:30 AM prayer service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Niles City Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Project 20/20 Campaign at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in memory of Marvin. Arrangements are being handled by the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
