Maurice R. "Mo" Skiffey, 72, of Niles died Tuesday October 1, 2013 at his residence.
He was born February 16, 1941 in Youngstown the son of James and Rose Rae Maletsky Skiffey Sr.
Maurice was a 1959 graduate of Niles McKinley High School where he was an All County Varsity Football player and a 1964 graduate of Ohio University with a BS degree in English.
He was owner, operator, and broker of Skiffey Realty Associates and Appraising for 20 years, a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, Amici Club, Niles Kiwanis, Wolves, and Moose. He enjoyed playing racquetball, basketball, golf, and pool in several leagues. Maurice also acquired his pilots license in 1980 and enjoyed traveling.
He was a United States Air Force Reserve Veteran during the Vietnam War.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Karen Cassidy Skiffey, whom he married August 12, 1972, two sons, Maurice Skiffey Jr. and Joseph Skiffey, both at home, a daughter Michelle Phillips-Hoso of Lubbock Texas, three brothers, Dr. James Skiffey Jr. of Niles, Gary Skiffey of Warren, Dr. Robert Skiffey and his wife Dawn of Wadsworth, a sister Merrily Rae Jack of Niles, four grandchildren, Dominic Maurice Skiffey, Stephen James Hoso, Meghan Hoso, and Christian Palmer, and a great-grandson Gabriel Hosnie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Brian Phillips, and two sisters, Lana Rae Skiffey, and Sandra Fairman.
Friends may call Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30AM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles with Father John-Michael Lavelle officiating, preceded by a 10:30AM prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery where Maurice will be honored for his military service by The Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
Arrangements are being handled by The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
