Nunzio A. Merlo, 85, of Niles, passed away on Tuesday October 3, 2023 at Gillette Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Warren. He was born September 24, 1938, the son of Carl and Rose Sallustio Merlo. He was a 1957 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force, and was later employed as a welder at ITT Grinnell and Vanex Tube Corporation. Nunzio had a passion for gardening and often gave away almost everything he grew. He was an avid walker and made many friends through the years on his daily walks. He will be deeply missed by his wife Mary Alice Weilacker Merlo whom he married April 23, 1966, a daughter Mary Teresa Delgado of Upper Arlington, Ohio, two sisters, Mary Weilacher and her husband Dave of Leavittsburg, Linda Fox and her husband Gene of Niles, five grandchildren, and daughter-in-law Kim of Masury. He was preceded in death by his son, Nunzio J. Merlo. The family would like to thank the staff at Gillette Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation for their outstanding care and kindness.
