Palmer A. Gentile, 93, of Niles, died at 10:50PM Sunday March 2, 2014 at The Vista Center at The Ridge.

He was born August 23, 1920 in Niles the son of Joseph and Rose Petrillo Gentile.

He was a 1938 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and employed as a foreman at Heltzel Steel for 31 years retiring in 1985.

He was a member Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, San Felippe Neri Lodge, Niles Democratic Club, Niles Councilman for over ten years, and past member of The Niles Knights of Columbus Council 1681.

He enjoyed golfing, gardening, crossword puzzles, spending time with his grandchildren, and was an United States Army veteran of World War II.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Rosemary Montemurro Gentile whom he married November 28, 1953, three daughters, Luanne Matheny and her husband Mark of Blythewood, South Carolina, Maureen Spackman of Mineral Ridge, and Paula Gentile of Niles, four grandchildren, Jillian, Amanda, Alayna, and Jenna, and two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Kinley.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Gentile, a brother Arthur Gentile, and a sister Lena Burke.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7PM and Friday from 10 to 11AM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles where The Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers Thursday at 6:30PM.

Funeral services will be held 11AM Friday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles with Deacon Michael Hanshaw officiating. Palmer will be honored for his military service immediately after the funeral.

Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
