Obituary

Youngstown, Ohio-Rosalind Mary "Roz DeGennaro, 86, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2024.

Roz was born on December 30,1937 in Youngstown, Ohio; the daughter of the late Comiel and Mary Troll Turello.

Rosalind graduated from Liberty High School in 1956. She was an accomplished singer and encouraged to consider this as a career by her high school guidance counselor. During her high school years, she attended the Dana School of Music at YSU for 2 years. She won amateur hour four times on the nationally televised Ted Mack TV show. She was also a member of the Kenley players in Warren during the summers where she was asked to tour with them. She was awarded a 4 year scholarship to a music conservatory, but she decided to pursue her first love, nursing.

Roz graduated from the Youngstown Hospital Association School of Nursing in 1959 where she served as their class president. In 1960, she went to the University of Colorado Denver to get certified in the newly developed medical specialty of neonatal ICU/premature infants care.

On November 27, 1965 she married the love of her life, Carmen J DeGennaro. They made their home in Niles. They had one daughter, Maribeth. Carmen and Roz enjoyed their trips to Ohio Northern University as Maribeth studied there and achieved her pharmacy degree.

Roz accepted the position as head nurse for the first neonatal unit at Northside Hospital, where she worked until becoming pregnant with her daughter. It was then Roz left Northside Hospital and became Director of Nursing at Gillette's Nursing Home in Warren, Ohio. In her spare time she served as a volunteer nurse at "Our Lady of Mt Carmel" in Niles, additionally in the parish office at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. She retired in the early 2000's.

Roz was a devoted Grandmother to her two grandsons, Zach and Justin. As a member of the Red Hat Society she loved visiting and spending time with  friends. When it came to playing cards, she was a fierce competitor! Roz would meet with friends and play cards every night, as well as take part in fun activities at Victoria House. . Roz will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her daughter Maribeth (Kevin) Wadman, her grandsons Zachary Wadman and Justin Wadman, her sister Sylvia Maholtz, her brother-in-law Bill Hoover, and many nieces and nephews. She will also be deeply missed by all her friends at Victoria House where she resided. She will be remembered as a kind and loving soul who did her best to help those she loved, and those in need.

Roz was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carmen; her sister, Nancy Hoover; her brother-in-law, Paul Maholtz Jr; her sister-in-law, Suntine DGennaro Infante,her brother-in-law James Infante and nephew, Vincent Infante.

Family and friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Joseph Rossi Funeral Home, 457 Robbins Ave.,Niles, where prayers will be held at 6:30PM.

. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m on Saturday, Nov 2, at Saint Pope John XXIII Catholic Church- Our Lady of Mt Carmel Campus, 381 Robbins Ave. Niles, preceded by a 9:30am prayer service at the funeral home. . Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.

Monetary donations may be made to Hospice of The Valley  Hospice House of Poland, 9308 Sharrott Rd, Youngstown, Ohio 44514. Arrangements are being handled by The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
