Obituary

Sam A. Zonfa,79, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014 surrounded by his five children.

Sam was born in Niles, Ohio on January 6, 1934 to Angelo and Minnie (Peters) Zonfa. Sam graduated from Niles McKinley in 1951. He was a proud veteran who served as medic in The United States Army during the Korean War. He attended several universities and graduated from The Youngstown University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Major in Advertising in 1958. He was a member of Alpha Mu Advertising and Merchandising Fraternity. Continuing his love of education, he earned additional diplomas in a broad range of areas.

Sam worked as an advertising artist with General Outdoor Advertising in New York City before becoming an insurance agent in Youngstown. He began his career with John Hancock Insurance. He joined Nationwide Insurance in 1969 with his own agency in Cornersburg for over 30 years before retiring to Las Vegas, Nevada. He resided in Nevada until recently.

He enjoyed socializing, traveling to warm climates, fishing, the beach, music and the outdoors. He had a passion for education and continued lifelong learning. He was truly blessed to have lived a full and prosperous life. His legacy will continue through his family and the many who knew and loved him.

Sam's greatest joy was his family, especially grandchildren. He was a wonderful father and admired by all who knew him. All will remember his jovial personality and happy, optimistic demeanor.

Sam leaves five children and fifteen grandchildren: Dr. Christopher M. (Kim Vitus) Zonfa, Kimberly M. Czuba (Ryan) Griffith, Lynn Ann (Ron) Bucci, Colleen M. (Mahmood) Moghadam, and Dr. Charles A. (Leslie Celebrezze) Zonfa. Grandchildren listed respectively: Chase, Mara and Patrick Zonfa; Stephanie M. Czuba Minor (Charlie), Sara N. Czuba, Sam and Graham Griffith; Gina, Dominic, Angelo and Maria Bucci; Jacqueline Moghadam; Ian, Camille and William Zonfa. He also leaves his dear friend and companion Mary Lou Gamble, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. Sam was preceded in death by his parents Angelo and Minnie (Peters) Zonfa; his sister, Josephine Brozman; and his brother, Dominic Gaetano (Guy) Zonfa.

Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles

Private memorial service will be held for the family at The Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
