Shirley M. Discerni, 86 of Niles, died at 9:15AM Wednesday June 22, 2016 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.

She was born January 16, 1930 in Niles the daughter of Harry and Vera Thornhill Shelley.

She was a 1947 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, employed as a nurses aide at St. Joseph's Hospital until stopping to raise a family, then was a baker at Vennetti's Grocery Store before retiring in 1977.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, enjoyed  baking, crocheting, casino trips, playing bingo, and an avid Cleveland Cavaliers and Indians fan.

Her husband Anthony L. Discerni whom she married September 5, 1951 died April 27, 2002.

She will be deeply missed by two sons, Anthony Discerni and his wife Patricia of Coshocton, Ohio, and Joseph Discerni and his wife Catreese of Warren, two daughters, Marcella Gibson and her husband Chris of Friendswood, Texas, and Cheryl Discerni of Berlin Center, Ohio, seven grandchildren, Christopher Gibson II and his wife Courtney, Sarah Gibson, Joseph Discerni and his wife Katherine, Matthew Discerni and his wife Kaitlyn, Katie Lyn Discerni, Kristin Discerni, and Anthony Discerni, two great grandchildren Brayden and Luka, her brother- in- law and sister- in- law Alex and Frances Selanik of Warren, her brother- in- law John Durig of Niles, and her special friend Nancy Confoey who helped take care of her and thought of her as her own daughter.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister Dorothy Durig.

Friends may call Friday from 4 to 6PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles where the Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 5:30PM.

Funeral Services will be held at 10AM Saturday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
