Byron M. “Butch” Swauger Jr., 79, of Niles, passed away on Wednesday September 21, 2022 at Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.
He was born February 2, 1943 in Warren the son of Byron M. Swauger Sr. and Marie Pavlich.
Butch was a 1962 graduate of Niles McKinley High School. He worked at the Niles Daily Times for 38 years as a production supervisor and was employed at CCL Container in Hermitage for 12 years. Butch owned and operated Korner Koney’s in Niles with his wife Dorothy for 10 years.
Butch was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam. He was member of American Legion William McKinley Post 106 and VFW Post 2074 in Niles. Butch enjoyed hunting, camping, the outdoors, and motorcycles.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Dorothy “Dutch” Martin Swauger whom he married September 10, 1965, four sons, Robert and his wife Christie of Niles, Terry of Niles, Richard and his wife Andie of Columbus, and Timothy and his wife Beth of Johnstown, Ohio; a sister Shirley Edgar of Mecca, five grandchildren, Luke Swauger, Lindsey Swauger, Jillian Swauger, Claudia Swauger, and Evan Swauger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ralph Swauger and Paul Pavlich, and a daughter-in-law Kellee Swauger.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles with Rev. Christopher Stark officiating.
Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to VA Hospice, Louis Stokes Cleveland Medical Center, 10701 East Blvd, Cleveland, Ohio 44106.
Arrangements are being handled by The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
