David E. Calderone Jr., 71, of Niles, passed away on Saturday September 17, 2022 at Hospice of The Valley Hospice House in Poland.
He was born July 9, 1951 in Warren the son of David E. and Florence Marsico Calderone Sr.
David was a 1969 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, attended and played football at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois for one year, and graduated from Youngstown State University in 1978 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in business administration.
He was employed as a laborer and foreman at Republic and Taylor Steel from 1970 to 2008 then as a school bus driver for The Niles City School District from 2009 to 2020.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, San Filippo Neri Lodge, and The United Steel Workers of America.
He enjoyed gardening, wine making, spending time with his family, going to Nikki’s with his friends, and celebrating everything Christmas especially Christmas Eve with the seven fishes. Dave was also an avid sports fan cheering on his favorite teams, The Ohio State Buckeyes, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Yankees.
His wife Cheryl Jordan Calderone whom he married August 13, 1983 died January 3, 2017.
He will be sadly missed by two sons, Christopher Calderone and Michael Calderone with whom he made his home, a brother Nicholas Calderone and his wife Cheryl of Pataskala, Ohio, his niece and god daughter Gabrielle Gale and her husband Tyson, many cousins and family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4 to 7PM Wednesday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles where The Mt. Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 6:30PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00AM Thursday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Niles preceded by a 9:30AM prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
