Dolores Sandy Obituary

 Dolores Santell Sandy, 93, of Niles passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at her home. Dolores was born on December 26, 1928, in Sharon Pennsylvania and was the 9th child born to Nicholas and Mary Gizzarelli Santell.

Dolores was a 1946 graduate of Farrell High School and then attended Grove City College. While attending college, she was a member of the Delta Omega Rho Sorority. She worked for her father at the Santell’s Bar and Restaurant in various capacities. She also served as her father’s personal driver for all his many business affairs. She went on to work at Packard Electric and retired at the age of sixty-nine.

Dolores was in the Packard Women’s Golf League and enjoyed bowling. She was also an avid sports fan of the Niles McKinley Red Dragons and the McDonald Blue Devils sporting teams. She was also a big fan of the Cleveland Indians (Guardians) and the Cavaliers. She always enjoyed being around her extensive family, from trips to parties and everything in between.

Dolores enjoyed spending time gardening, working on her landscaping and flowers, and baking cookies for holidays especially her well known “clothespin” cookies.

Dolores married Rocky J. Sandy of Niles on November 28, 1953. Rocky passed away on April 13, 1981. She is survived by her daughter Sharon Marie Rose and her husband Charles J. III (Bo) of Niles and her son Anthony Sandy and his wife Valerie of Niles.

Dolores had five grandchildren: Kristopher Rose and Marissa Rose, Gabriella Sandy, Samantha McClorey (Brennan) and Anthony Sandy. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Dolores was preceded in death by her sisters, Carmelina (Samuel) Palermo, Clara (Lawrence) Vaglia, Martha (Steve) Poprocky, Gloria (Michael) Dutzer and two brothers, Norbert (Helen) Santell and Alfred(Larose) Santell. She also had two infant sisters Catherine and Elizabeth Santell who preceded her in death.

There will be no calling hours for Dolores. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 1:00pm at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles.
