Dominic Liguori, 93, of Niles, passed away surrounded by his loving family at 12:30 am on Tuesday July 14, 2020.
He was born February 24, 1927 in Valsinni Materia, Italy. He was the son of Giuseppe and Filomena Guerra Liguori and came to The United States in 1953.
Dominic attended and studied Art History, at what was then known as Youngstown College. He was employed as a truck driver for the Tamarkin/Giant Eagle Wholesale Grocery Company for 35 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union 377, veteran of the Italian Army, and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles.
Dominic had a zest for life and truly enjoyed spending time with his family. His family defined the man he was. His hobbies include: gardening, wine making, curing Italian meats, canning tomato sauce &peppers, and engaging in various Italian traditions. He enjoyed ballroom dancing at Avon Oaks & Point View, playing the accordion, writing music, and listening to Italian opera. He was an avid reader who enjoyed eating at Leons Sports Bar and Grill.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carmela Rinaldi Liguori, whom he married July 29, 1954. She passed away on June 16, 1989.
He will be deeply missed by his son Joseph (Becky) Liguori of Canton, Ohio, three daughters, Philomena (Harry) Serena of Niles, Donna (Rick) Kelsh of Howland, and Antoinette (Dominic) D’Urso of Niles, and son-in-law Tim Kovacich of Chardon. He has a brother Fabian (Francis) Liguori of Niles, 17 grandchildren, June Terronova, Karla Raub, Harry, Shannon, and Lance Serena, Donna Fragnoli, Diana Page, Tim Kovacich, Kristen Falhaber, Joe Liguori Jr, Brian and Tori Paloci, Rick and Mike Kelsh, Carmella D’Urso, and his special caretakers Isabella and Annie D’Urso, 14 great-grandchildren, and his special friend John Canann .
He was preceded in death by a daughter Connie Kovacich, three brothers, Donato, Luigi, and Gino Liguori, and a sister Eleanor Patrone.
Friends may call Saturday, July 18 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles. There will be no procession from the funeral home and friends are encouraged to go directly to the church. Due to the current health situation, social distancing measures are expected to be observed and facial coverings are mandatory at the funeral home and church. There will also be no formal procession to the cemetery after mass
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
