Dorothy Ruberto Obituary

Dorothy Ruberto, 86, of Niles passed away on Thursday June  4, 2020 at Shepherd of the Valley in Niles.

She was born on December 26, 1933 to Michael and Maria Hrinko Matyas  in Warren,Ohio, the youngest of 11 children.

She was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School where she was a proud cheerleader. She married her husband Anthony Ruberto on September 19, 1953. She raised her children while working at Macali’s Market, where she eventually retired as head cashier in 1999.

Dorothy loved sports, especially golf and baseball. She was always headed to local ballparks to see her children and grandchildren play from little league to high school. A particularly avid golf fan, she enjoyed watching the Masters just as much as she did playing with friends and family. She also enjoyed any number of card games and never missed the chance to polka or jitterbug at one of her beloved Matyas Family Reunions where she looked forward to connecting with relatives from far and wide every few years. Dorothy also found great joy in cooking and baking with her kids and grandchildren and was notably complimented on her homemade taralli and biscotti recipes.

She is survived by her children, Peter  Ruberto (Deborah) of Warren, Karen Ruberto  of Cary, North Carolina and Anthony Ruberto  of Niles, grandchildren A.J Ruberto (Abby) of Niles, Laura Ruberto of Lakewood, Carmella Ruberto of Long Island City, New York, Vincent Ruberto of Chicago, and Peter Rawlins of Titusville, Florida, great grandchildren Isabella and Adrianna Ruberto,daughter -in -law Lynnette Ruberto, brother John Matyas of Warren, sister – in -law Madline Matyas of Florida, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

 She was preceeded in death by her husband Anthony Ruberto  who died December 6, 1978 and son Thomas Ruberto. Siblings Peter(Rose) Matyas, Ann(Andy)Polivka, Paul(Lilian) Maytas, Charles(Loena)Maytas, Andrew Matyas, Julie(James)Sebastian, George(Midge) Matyas, Mary Matyas Rufo, Martin(Jean)Matyas.

The Ruberto family would like to extend a special thanks to the residents and staff at Shepherd of the Valley in Niles , who through their care, kindness and patience have truly done God’s work on earth for Dorothy the last years of her life.

As per Dorothy’s request, there are no calling hours. A private ceremony will take place at a later date.
