Gregory Comer Obituary

Gregory J. Comer, 72, of Niles, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday January 20, 2021.

He was born January 17, 1949 in Youngstown the son of George and Margaret(Lois) Hart Comer.

A 1967 graduate of McDonald High School, Greg pursued his love for cooking and creating recipes and attended The Culinary Institute of America, New Haven, CT. He Graduated in 1969 with a Bachelors Degree in Culinary Arts. He later came back to Ohio where he was employed by many local restaurants as an Executive Chef. To spend more time with his family, He accepted a Job with RMI Titanium in 1980 as a Furnace Operator. He retired in 2009 after 28 years of service.

Greg was always full of life and telling jokes. His love of cooking never ended. He was always making someone’s favorite meal with a dish towel(Mappine) over his shoulder whistling while he worked. He was an Avid Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Ohio State Fan. He Loved Golf, Fishing, Planting and Tending to his Garden waiting on that first perfectly ripe tomato, Listening to Oldies, and Spending time with his family in Geneva On The Lake.

His Family was his life. He loved his Grandchildren, and loved having them around him. He waited for Sports Seasons to start so he could go cheer them on. He also loved his Grandpups and couldn’t wait for them to come over.

Greg was strong in his faith and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles. He was a wonderful Husband, a great Father, and a loving Grandfather.

Greg will be deeply missed by his wife Karen Marino Comer whom he married August 16, 1975, two daughters, Natalie Westfall of Sharon, Pennsylvania and Tara Baldwin (Kevin) of Niles, three brothers, Kirk Comer(Jean)of McDonald, Jeffrey Comer of McDonald, and Scott Comer (Theresa) of Liberty, brother-in-law Leo J. Marino (Bobbi) of Cape Coral,  Florida and two grandchildren, Peyton Comer and Shae Westfall.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 9:30AM to 10:30AM Monday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles. Due to the current health situation, social distancing measures are expected to be observed and friends coming to pay respects to the family are kindly asked to depart the funeral home after doing so. Facial coverings are mandatory also.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM Monday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles where social distancing and facial coverings are mandatory.

Arrangements are being held by The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
