James Cuchna Obituary

James R. Cuchna, 80, of Niles, entered into eternal rest on Friday September 30, 2022 at Mercy Health St. Joseph’s Hospital in Warren with his family by his side. 
He was born October 1, 1941 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of James G. Cuchna and Malvina Hay. Jim was a 1959 graduate of Berea High School where he was a track star, attended Kent State University where he played baseball, and graduated from Youngstown State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He was employed for 40 years as an accountant and eventually a controller for various companies including Club Aluminum, Alcan Aluminum,Pittsburgh-Canfield Steel, Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, and Gibraltar Steel Strip.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, Ohio where he served on the parish finance committee and was a festival volunteer for many years. He was also a treasurer of The Spina Bifida Association of America, a member of Niles Knights of Columbus Council 1681, Y.S.U. Penguin Club, and various golfing and bowling leagues.
Jim was an avid Cleveland Indians fan, a huge Beatles fan, and played for Wieda Landscaping at Waddell Park in the Niles Men’s Softball League. He grew up playing baseball in Cleveland and was very honored to be recruited to try out for the Cleveland Indians. He was also quite proud to make a hole in one at the Mill Creek Golf Courses not once, but twice.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 58 years Anna Mae (Erdos) Cuchna whom he met at Geneva on the Lake and married August 22, 1964, his three daughters: Cynthia Cuchna of Niles, Sherri Fozkos of Granbury, Texas, and Maribeth Longberry and her husband Phil of Dayton, his six grandchildren: Brian, Hannah, and Payton Fozkos; Ryan, Morghan, and Owen Longberry, and his sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-sister Carol Modenbach, son-in-law Robert G. Fozkos, two brothers-in-law, and a sister-in-law.
Friends and family may call from 9:30AM to 11:30AM Wednesday October 5, 2022 at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Wednesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles preceded by an 11:30AM prayer service at the funeral home. 
Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery.
