James Matteo Obituary

James P. Matteo, 80 of Niles, Ohio passed away on Sunday January 12, 2020 of complications from Alzheimer’s at his residence.
Mr. Matteo was born on February 3, 1939 in Youngstown, Ohio, son to James F. and  Vera A. Sheehan Matteo. 
Mr. Matteo was a 1957 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and was an amateur boxer in 1956 and 1957. After high school, he honorably served as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps. After the Marines, he married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Ann Bailey on November 18, 1961 and then joined the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for 41 years before retiring. 
He was a member of St. Stephen’s Church, and enjoyed golfing, boxing, weight lifting, bowling, football, music, and was a big Seinfeld fan. 
He leaves his wife, Phyllis Bailey Matteo, whom he married in 1961; a daughter Tracy Matteo Kubicz and her husband Paul of Chesapeake,Virginia, daughter Michelle Matteo Mitten and her husband William of Winterville, North Carolina, son James S. Matteo and his wife Kimberly of Redwood City,California, daughter Kristy Matteo of Warren, Ohio and a granddaughter Melissa Matteo of California. 
Preceding him in death were two siblings, his twin brother John “Jack” Matteo of California and sister Verda Calderone of Girard. 
Friends may call from 9AM to 11AM Wednesday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles
Funeral services will be held 11AM Wednesday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
Burial will be in St Stephen Cemetery where Jim will be honored for his military service.
The family would like to thank the staff of Trumbull Regional, Harbor Light Hospice, and Galaxy Medical for their compassion and care of Jim. Tracy, Michelle and Jimmy would also like to extend a big thank you to Pat Hoolihan and their sister Kristy for never leaving dad’s side, and going above and beyond in providing the best care for dad. We love you!
