Lawrence J. Gatta, 99, of Niles, passed away on Sunday January 30, 2022 at Washington Square Nursing Home in Warren.
He was born October 4, 1922 in Niles the son of Pasquale and Antoinette Toriello Gatta.
He was a 1940 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and retired as a clerk for the Niles Post Office. He was a member of The Bagnoli Irpino Club and enjoyed bowling, bocce, and watching football, especially the Cleveland Browns.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II where he served for the 120’th Infantry in Normandy, Northern France and had received the Purple Heart.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Bertha Telego Gatta whom he married August 31, 1946, a daughter Carol Sidor( Tom) of Niles, a daughter Linda O’Donnell( Chuck) of Youngstown, a son Larry Gatta(Denise) of Niles, a son Joseph Gatta(Donald) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania a son Robert Gatta (Becky) of McDonald ,a brother Norman Gatta of Niles, seven grandchildren, Jeff Sidor, Mark Sidor, Brett Gatta, Kaitlin Bailey, Nick Gatta, Mike Gatta, and LeighAnn Marino, four great-grandchildren, J.T. Sidor, Mark Sidor, Bailey Sidor, and Nico Gatta, and a great-great grandson Matthew.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, JoJo Kish, three brothers, Jerry Gatta, Dominick Gatta, Anthony Gatta, and a sister Rose Aurilio.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles where The Mt. Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 6:30PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00AM Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles preceded by a 9:30AM prayer service at the funeral home.
Facial coverings are mandatory for all family and friends coming to pay their respects at the funeral Home and at the church.

Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
