Lorene C. Simunich, 93, of Niles, passed away on Friday August 27, 2021 at her residence.
She was born November 1, 1927 in Niles the daughter of Domenico and Rosina Guliano Perone.
Lorene was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Niles, The John F. Kennedy High School Band Boosters, and Cub Scout leader of Troop 33 at St. Stephen School, where she also volunteered in the cafeteria and library.
She enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, embroidery and latch hook rugs for which she won several ribbons at the Trumbull and Canfield Fairs. She liked to travel and enjoyed her time spent in Florida. She learned how to swim in her 60’s at The Niles YMCA where she made many friends, later she enjoyed putting together her Jigsaw puzzles with her family and friends.
Her husband Peter Simunich whom she married September 26, 1953 died October 31, 1990.
She will be sadly missed by her son Stephen Simunich, with whom she made her home, her daughter Roseann Simunich of Boardman, her brother Frank Perone of Port Charlotte, Florida, her twin sisters Helen Scarpaci and her husband Joseph of Warren and Thelma Zemko and her husband Joseph of Port Charlotte, Florida, a cousin Joe Perone; 2 nieces and 4 nephews; and several great nieces and nephews; her close friend Mary and caregivers Barb, Sherry, Dorothy and Tracy.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sabato “Sam” Perone and Gabriel “Billy” Perone, and three sisters, Clotilda “Cleo” Sidor, Marie Urban, and Ruth Ann Bodnark.
Friends may call Monday from 5 to 7PM at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Tuesday at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Niles preceded by a 9:30AM prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
