Luke Monteforte

Luke Monteforte, 93, of Niles, passed away on Sunday May 14, 2023 at his residence.
He was born June 17, 1929 in Niles the son of Anthony and Mary Portanova Monteforte.
He was a 1947 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, graduate of Youngstown State University with a Bachelors Degree in Education and a graduate of Kent State University with a Masters in Education.
He was employed at Republic Steel for 15 years then as a teacher for the Weathersfield School District for 30 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Niles, church reader, served on the Niles Community Service Board, enjoyed gardening, collecting, traveling, and avid garage sale enthusiast. He was also a War and Western Movie buff, loved telling stories, and Karate where he was a Black Belt.
He was a United States Army veteran of The Koran War where he was awarded the Purple Heart, Army Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, Combat Infantryman Badge First Award, and The United Nations Service Medal.
His wife Yolanda Flaviano  Monteforte whom he married April 18, 1953 died June 27, 2020.
He will be deeply missed by two sons, Alan Monteforte, at home, and Jeffery Monteforte and his wife Sharlene of Broadview Heights, Ohio, a brother Michael Monteforte of Niles, four grandchildren, Brock Monteforte and his wife Tracy, Eric Monteforte, Troy Monteforte, and Trevor Monteforte, and a great-grandson Gregory Monteforte.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Monteforte, a brother Tony Monteforte, and two sisters, Angie Costello and Rose Monteforte.
Friends may call one hour prior to the 11AM funeral service Thursday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
 Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery where Luke will be honored for his military services
