Richard J. Koehn, 72, of Niles, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at Hospice of The Valley, Hospice House in Poland.
Dick was born April 11, 1948 in Canton, Ohio, the son of Robert and Edna (Corriveau) Koehn.
He was a 1966 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and attended Youngstown State University for 2 years. Richard retired in 1999 after 31 years of service from Packard Electric
where he worked as a foreman and battery lineman. He worked part-time for the last for 8 years at Atom-Matic Refrigeration in Niles.
Dick was of The Catholic faith, member and past commander of American Legion in Girard, member of The Army-Navy in Niles, Vienna VFW, Girard Eagles and Girard IFH. He was a past
member of the McDonald Fire Department. He was also a United States Marine Corp veteran having served as a jet mechanic.
Dick enjoyed golfing, bowling and reading. He had a great sense of humor and a big heart. He loved spending time with his family and was a lover of all animals, especially his beloved
Shih-Tzu, Mugsy. He always had a pocketful of dog treats for any dog he came across and fed all the neighbor cats.
He will be deeply missed by his mother Edna of Boca Raton, Florida, his wife Rita (Marino) Koehn, whom he married August 16, 1969, a son Jeff Koehn and his fiancé Amy Higgins of
Mantua, Ohio, a daughter Dawn (David) Slusher of Liberty, three brothers, Robert Koehn Jr. of Champion, Joseph (Denise) Koehn of Salisbury, North Carolina, and Ted (Sandra) Koehn of
Gainesville, Florida, three sisters, Robyn Taiclet of Streetsboro,Ohio, Candace Quinn of Boca Raton, Florida, and Kathy Crouch of Omaha, Nebraska, four grandchildren, Emily Koehn, Hannah Koehn, Colin Koehn, and Dimera Slusher and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Edward Koehn.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice House of Poland for their kindness and compassion during his final days and ask that in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to Hospice of the Valley.
Friends may call Saturday February 6, 2021 from 11AM to noon at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles. Due to the current health situation social distancing measures are expected to be observed and friends coming to pay respects to the family are kindly asked to depart the funeral home after doing so. Facial coverings are mandatory also.
Funeral services are private.
