Joseph A. Spano, 85, of Naples, Florida, died early Saturday morning, August 1, 2015 at the Park Vista Nursing Home in Youngstown, after a lengthy illness.

He was born January 29, 1930 in Niles, Ohio, the son of Samuel and Angie Mollica Spano, where he spent his early life.

Joe was a 1948 graduate of McKinley High School in Niles, member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Girard, and St. Agnes Catholic Church in Naples, Florida

.He was also a United States Naval Veteran having been stationed first at the Jacksonville Florida Naval Air Station and later in Trinidad during the Korean War.

 While serving in Jacksonville, he met his then future wife, Barbara Ann Rickman of Ashville, North Carolina, who was also stationed there.  After being discharged, the couple married, settled in Ohio, and lived there until their retirement. 

As co-founder of the Spano Insurance Agency in Boardman, Joe enjoyed meeting new people, attending social gatherings and participating in industry functions.  He also enjoyed wintering in Florida, golf, traveling, and vacationing in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

His wife Barbara, whom he married August 28, 1952, died May 18, 2010 after 57 years of marriage.

He leaves his two sons, Joseph A. Spano Jr. (Carolyn) of Girard, and Kevin L. Spano (Elaine Melesky) of Canfield, who currently operate the Spano Insurance Agency; his son, Gregory Spano of Kansas City; his daughter, Cynthia L. LaBuda (John) of Niles, with whom he made his summer home; three grandchildren, Adam O'Brien (Celia), Brittany M. Spano, and Joseph A. Spano III; two great-grandchildren, Finley O’Brien andRuby Spano-Lacor; a sister, Josephine Natoli of Sun City, Arizona; a brother John (Elaine) of Naples, Florida; and a brother-in-law Frank Natoli, also of Naples, Florida

His parents; a sister Sarah Natoli  and a brother-in-law John Natolli  preceded him in death.

There are no calling hours or funeral services.
